Spotlight: Little Sensory Co.

Welcome to the next edition of our monthly "Spotlight" series! Each month (or so) we will shine a spotlight on a local business that is making a positive impact on the family scene in the Lower Mainland.

This month we are featuring Little Sensory Co, where little ones from 6 weeks to pre-walking can explore, imagine, and discover through play. These programs create a safe, welcoming space for parents too, because these early moments are as much about connection for families as they are about sensory discovery for babies.

Meet the co-founders of Little Sensory Co.

Mini (left) has a background in law but followed her passion into business, co-founding a Montessori furniture company with her husband. She also teaches yoga to children, encouraging creativity, movement, and mindfulness through play. As a mother, she brings both lived experience and a love of early childhood learning into her work with families.

Jas (middle) has experience working with children and previously worked in infertility as an embryologist. She holds a UK certification in Childcare and Development, giving her an in-depth understanding of the early years (0–5), including child development, learning through play, and safeguarding. As a mother of two, Jas combines her professional knowledge with real-life parenting experience.

Prabhleen (right) is a UK-trained Clinical Psychologist specialising in children and paediatrics. As a mum of two, she brings both professional experience and personal insight to her work, co-facilitating sensory workshops that help parents understand and support key milestones in babies and young children.

Q&A with Little Sensory Co.

After seeing a Little Sensory Co. workshop in action, I was so impressed! I wanted to learn more about how this program came to be. Here is what I discovered...

Q. How and why was Little Sensory Co. created?

A. We're three best friends from the UK who met in Canada. With our shared personalities, similar approach to raising our own kids, and different backgrounds in childcare and development, we created littlesensoryco to bring a bit of the sensory experience we loved back home to families here and to do things differently from what we had experienced at programs locally.

Q. What are the workshops like?

A. Our 45-minute sessions are designed around babies' natural rhythms, with three sections: core activities, independent play, and downtime. Core activities are repeated during the session to help little ones learn and build memory.

Each workshop has a fun new theme, and during downtime we use soft, sensory friendly lighting to calm and soothe little ones while supporting their developing vision.

Sensory Sessions at Little Words Studio

One of our Little Words Moms recommended this program to me, and I'm so glad she did!

I contacted Jas and we offered our first session in August of this year - we had two sold-out (and waitlisted!) classes. They were musical, tactile, visually stimulating, and allowed lots of time for parents to chat and get to know each other.

Little Words is always looking for baby-friendly, educational, fun programs to add to our repertory of offerings.. and Little Sensory Co. sessions is all of these things and more!!

I'm looking forward to being able to offer more of these programs to our families in the coming year.
