Meet Laurie

Laurie holds an ARCT Piano Teacher Diploma, ARCT Piano Performers Diploma, and a Licentiate Performance Diploma. After receiving her diplomas, she furthered her studies in both advanced piano repertoire and advanced theoretical subjects. She has acquired the standing as an Advanced Piano Specialist, and Advanced Theory Specialist from the Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition, she is a Registered Music Teacher and a member of the BCRMTA.

Laurie has been teaching full time for over twenty years, and specializes in all levels of Piano, Theory, Harmony, History, Counterpoint, and Analysis. She prepares piano and theory students of all levels for Royal Conservatory of Music, and British Columbia Conservatory of Music examinations, where many achieve distinction standings.

Laurie enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels of piano and theory. Her main goal is to find the best approach for each individual student in order to install a strong understanding of theory and musicianship. She strives to help her students along their musical journey of making and enjoying music; a skill they can enjoy over their lifetime.

Meet Kristina

Kristina has been pursuing her passion for music and dance since the age of three. She holds the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Piano Pedagogy certificates, and has many years of experience teaching piano to students of a variety of ages and levels. She enjoys incorporating RCM, Faber, and popular music into lessons and strives to make learning piano engaging, rewarding, and enjoyable for each student.

Kristina holds a Bachelor of General Studies and Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education from Queen’s University. In addition to her music teaching, she has experience as a classroom teacher working with diverse learners, including students with special education needs and at-risk youth. Her background in education allows her to create a supportive and individualized approach to teaching, while helping students build both musical skills and confidence.

Kristina has an extensive background in dance, having trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, musical theatre, and tap. She has completed Royal Academy of Dance graded examinations, participated in numerous performances and competitions, and worked with a variety of guest choreographers. She had performed in a range of productions including Ballet Victoria’s The Gift, and has received high-score titles at various dance competitions.

Above all, Kristina believes that music should be something students genuinely enjoy and connect with. She cherishes the relationships she builds with her students and their families and finds teaching to be a truly rewarding experience. She looks forward to supporting each student as they grow, develop their skills, and discover their own love of music.

Meet Sydney

Sydney has been playing the piano since she was three years old, and could read music before she could read words. She has her grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certificate, and attended music diploma classes at Douglas College. She has been teaching pre-school aged to adult students since 2022, and has taught both early piano and RCM.

Teaching piano helped her find her love for teaching, leading her to become an elementary school teacher, as her day job. Through her own piano lesson experiences, she believes that a piano teacher should be kind and supportive. This is a priority for her while she teaches, including creating both educational and fun piano classes.
